addition to Cai multipurpose centre, there are some other
hotels located on Trentino side.
Other activities: On Pordoi Pass there is an amazing
cableway leading to Sass Pordoi peak (2900 m on sea
level), where you can find Maria Hut; from there you
are to enjoy a grand panorama on the Dolomite landscape
and get to some other huts in altitude (10-minute hike
to Forcella Pordoi Hut, 1-hour-and-15-minute hike to
Piz Boè peak where you can find Capanna Piz di
Fassa Mountain Hut, and after another 20-minute hike,
you come down to Boè Hut, which is also reachable
by a path running at the foot of Cima Boè: in
that case you need 50 minutes from the arrival cableway
station).
By taking path 601, you reach Fredarola Hut; by keeping
on path 601 and heading for Vièl dal Pan Hut,
you then arrive at Castiglioni Hut.
Alpine variation: from Castiglioni Hut, by crossing
through the dam (path 606), you get to Dolomia Hut,
Seggiovia Hut and Cima 11 Mountain Hut; and from there,
by keeping path 606, either on foot or by ski lift —
open cabin-lift in summer, in July and August — you
can reach Pian dei Fiacconi Hut and Ghiacciaio Marmolada
Hut. From there, by keeping on path 606, which in this
specific stretch overlaps with Alta Via n. 2, you pass
by Forcella Marmolada and get to Contrin Hut.
For expert hikers, there is the chance to climb up
the iron route (via ferrata) from Forcella Marmolada
and get to Marmolada peak and Capanna Punta Penia Mountain
Hut.
Basic Stage: setting off from Castiglioni Hut, you
go down towards Penia by following path 605 which overlaps
with “Sentiero Italia” and reach Penia village, where
you can take path 602 and hike up again to Contrin Hut
(stage arrival point).
